CLIMATE JUSTICE AND ACTION

Zambia faces significant challenges due to climate change, including seasonal floods, flash floods, extreme temperatures, and droughts. These natural hazards have become more severe and frequent in recent decades, affecting the predominantly rural and poor population. Inadequate infrastructure further exacerbates the vulnerability of the country to these environmental threats.
At LiFo, we are committed to promoting climate justice and action through comprehensive Mitigation and Adaptation programs. Our efforts include:

Creativity Environmental Day:
LiFo organizes Creativity Environmental Day, an initiative focused on transforming waste into valuable assets. Activities include making pencils and bathroom cases out of plastic bottles, promoting environmental sustainability, and reducing waste. This program not only addresses environmental concerns but also encourages innovative thinking and resourcefulness.

Alternative Livelihoods through Skills Development Programs:
To support communities affected by climate change, we provide skills development programs that offer alternative livelihoods. These programs include training in baking, doormat sewing, bottle decor, graphic design, climate-smart agriculture, and garden establishment. By equipping individuals with these skills, we help them create sustainable income sources, reducing their vulnerability to climate impacts.

Climate-Smart Agriculture Training and Garden Establishment:
We provide training in climate-smart agriculture techniques and help establish community gardens. These initiatives promote sustainable farming practices, improve food security, and enhance the resilience of rural communities to climate change.

Climate Awareness Raising:
LiFo conducts environmental education campaigns targeting our groups to raise awareness about climate change, conservation, and responsible resource management. These campaigns educate and empower communities to take proactive steps in addressing climate challenges.

Partnerships and Initiatives:
We partner with initiatives like Disco Soup to prevent food waste and provide training on resource management. These collaborations aim to create a more sustainable and resource-efficient community.

Interconnected Efforts:
Our climate justice and action initiatives directly support our first two pillars—Women and Children’s Rights and Poverty Alleviation. By addressing the environmental challenges that disproportionately affect women and children, we promote their rights and improve their living conditions. Additionally, our skills development programs and entrepreneurship training provide alternative livelihoods, contributing to poverty alleviation and economic stability.
